Panthers finish ahead of Pirates at Platte County

The Park Hill South boys’ swimming team pulled out the first place finish against Platte County and Smithville as the Platte County Pirates finished in second place when all three team competed at the Platte County Community Center on Sept. 21.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Panther team of Roman Lewis, Alec Enyeart, Alex Briggs and Luke Brown came in first with a time of 1:45.73. The Pirates finished in second with a time of 1:48.22 with Gage Jonkman, Palmer Keith, Collin Burton and Dylan Bietz.

The Panthers won two more relays and had four out of the five fastest teams in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Platte County had a third place team in both the 200-yard freestyle relay and in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Park Hill South’s Henry Snider was the top-finisher in the 200-yard freestyle when the 16-year-old ended with a 1:53.46 split. The next two swimmers to finish the race were Panthers Gentry Comstock and Jacob Knittel, while Platte County’s Deacon Gutshall finished in fourth place with a time of 2:01.77.

The Panthers dominated in the 200-yard individual medley when the top-3 finishers were all Park Hill South swimmers. Brown led the pack with a time of 2:11.01, followed by Grady Burns and Isaac Dierker.

Platte County picked it up in the 50-yard freestyle with two of the top three finishers. Bietz was the fastest in the race with a 23.09 time and Keith ended in third place with a time of 23.37.

Park Hill South’s Roman Lewis ended in second place with a time of 23.23 and Drew Franklin ended in fourth place with a 23.98 time.

Four Park Hill South swimmers finished in the top-5 in the 100-yard butterfly as the Panthers had the first three finishers. Brown, Dierker and Comstock ended the competition in that order and Matt Henderson finished in fifth place, while Platte County’s Jonkman was in fourth place.

Park Hill South had four more first-place individual finishers on the rest of the day. Enyeart won the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke, while Jack Francis-Cummins came out in first place in the 500-yard freestyle and Derek Long came in first place in the 100-yard backstroke.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Jonkman ended in fourth place and Howe ended in fifth place for the Pirates. Christian Yocklin was second place with a time of 1:10.29 in the 100-yard breaststroke, followed by Joey Croy in fifth place and Sam Ragone in sixth place.

Park Hill South ended the meet with 755 points while Platte County finished with 502 points and Smithville was in third place with 231 points.
