The Park Hill girls’ soccer team (4-8) has turned a corner, snapping a 6-game losing skid and winning three in a row, all of which were shutouts.
Starting off with only one win in their first nine games, the Lady Trojans headed to Liberty (9-6) and won 1-0 on April 13. Kenzie David had the sole Park Hill goal on the day.
After a 346-day drought, Park Hill finally won a home game when Staley (7-7) came to Park Hill District Stadium on April 18. The Lady Trojans pulled out a 1-0 win, but more importantly took some time to stand in unison with the Lady Falcons out of respect of Ralph Yarl, the Staley teenager who was shot recently.
Coming off back-to-back wins for the first time this spring, Park Hill erupted for eight goals – which resulted in a mercy-rule victory prior to the clock running out – over St. Joseph’s Central (6-7) on April 20. The Lady Indians have now lost 19 straight games to the Lady Trojans dating back to 2009.
This was the first 8-0 win for Park Hill since it took down Oak Park in the first round of district play on May 15, 2018. Maryn Hudson scored her first career varsity goal against the Lady Indians and combined for four total on the night, counting the JV game that was also an 8-0 win for the Lady Trojans.
Park Hill hasn’t won three in a row since 2021 as this is the first time second-year head coach Makenzie Heavey has reached that feat. The Lady Trojans will look to keep that strong play going in a rivalry game against Park Hill South (11-2) on April 27.
