Park Hill South struggles in opening season matches

The Park Hill South girls’ tennis team (0-2) is off to a slow start after losing both matches it played last week.

Park Hill South senior Shun Quinlan was narrowly defeated 8-6 in her singles match against Staley on on Sept. 1.

The Lady Panthers started off the season with an 8-1 loss to Lee’s Summit West on August 30 then fell to Staley 9-0 on September 1. Vivien Hamilton won her singles match against Lee’s Summit West for the only Park Hill South point when she defeated Campbell Gann, 8-1.

Shun Quinlan, Sophia Nguyen, Josie Smith and Abby Wingett all lost their singles matches by a score of 8-1. Ainsley Arnold lost her singles match 8-0. The Park Hill South doubles teams of Smith and Wingett, along with Nguyen and Quinlan, both lost 8-1.

Hamilton and Arnold had a more competitive doubles match, but ultimately lost 8 (7) – 8 (4). Park Hill South had a tough match the next time it hit the courts when it took on Staley.

Arnold and Wingett both lost their single matches 8-1 and Nguyen lost by a score of 8-2. Hamilton injured her elbow and fell by default and Quinlan put up a fight but was defeated 8-6.

Smith and Wingett didn’t score a point in their doubles match, while Quinlan and Nguyen only scored one point. Hamilton and Arnold had the best doubles match performance of the day, but still came up short by a score of 8-3.
