Park Hill wins Panther Classic

The rivalry between the Trojans and Panthers continued when the Park Hill South and Park Hill boys’ soccer teams clashed for a thrilling contest in the Panther Classic Championship Game on Oct. 7.

The soccer stadium at Park Hill South High School was filled with fans dressed in Trojan red and Panther purple, making the contest even more electrifying and intense. It was a defensive battle early on as neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening 40:00 of action.

In the 68th minute of play, Daiggen Gaar converted on a goal to put Park Hill on the board. The Panthers were unable to respond with a goal of their own as they fell in the championship game, 1-0.

The first half was extremely competitive as both teams had one shot on goal and Park Hill South controlled possession for 51% of the opening period. There were eight fouls before halftime, with the Panthers having five and the Trojans having three.

The tournament opened with pool play on Oct. 4, when Park Hill defeated North Kanas City, 1-0. Park Hill South started the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Platte County, giving the Pirates their first loss of the fall.

On Oct. 5, Park Hill South took down Olathe North 2-0, and Park Hill defeated Turner 6-0 as the Park Hill schools moved onto the championship game. The Trojans’ next contest will be at Blue Springs on Oct. 13, while the Panthers will host Oak Park on Oct. 13.
