Platte County officials have announced the offerings of the 2023 parks outreach grants, which are awarded annually and funded through the county’s dedicated quarter-cent sales tax.
Assistant Director of Parks Chris Oryshyn presented the list of projects, totaling $250,000, at the Monday, March 6 commission administrative session. Those projects are – Houston Lake, city park improvements, $9,216; Parkville, Gateway Park, $34,000; Riverside, Homestead Park, $24,000; Dearborn Betterment Committee, community trails project, $15,000; The Farmer’s House, community garden, $4,626; Weston Community Theatre, technical improvements, $4,417; Dearborn, maintenance equipment, $11,000; Edgerton, electrical upgrades and ballpark parking lot resurfacing, $20,000; Platte City, Harrel Ferrel Ballfield renovation, $32,500; Weston Park Board, Ben Holladay Park sidewalk and lighting, $30,000; Northland Sports Alliance, Tiffany Hills Park baseball/softball improvements, $15,750; Weatherby Lake Historical Committee, city hall historical marker, $2,560; Midwest Adaptive Sports, adapted snow activities, $4,750; Northland Symphony Orchestra, Pine Ridge Orchestra concert, $2,043; Platte City Friends of the Arts, summer outdoor concert series, $2,000; Platte County R-3 School District, bicycle learning and safety training, $30,738; Platte County Sports Commission, Family Sports Fest, $2,397; Weston Chamber of Commerce, visitor security project, $5,000.
Commissioners unanimously approved the slate of offerings, which will be formally awarded later this spring.
A memorandum of understanding between the county and the Park Hill School District was also approved, outlining a property easement for the future construction of the Brush Creek Trail.
Also at the March 6 meeting, several appointments were approved, including one for former presiding commissioner Ron Schieber, who was appointed to the Platte County Regional Sewer District. Other appointments included Jeff Kingsley to the Board for the Developmentally Disabled and Beth Biggs and Martha Pouche to the Domestic Violence Shelter Board.
