Parkville use tax fails to convince voters

Parkville’s proposed use tax was denied by voters by an overwhelming majority in the Tuesday, Nov. 2 general election.

According to Parkville officials, the use tax would support local businesses and the community as a whole by eliminating the advantage out-of-state retailers have over Parkville’s local retailers. The tax would match the current local sales tax of two percent

Proposition A reads: “Shall the City of Parkville impose a local use tax at the same rate as the total local sales tax rate, provided that if the local sales tax rate is reduced or raised by voter approval, the local use tax rate shall also be reduced or raised by the same action?”
