Pirates remain perfect at home

The new Pirate Field continues to be a place for near perfect baseball for Platte County (14-7) as the Pirates won their ninth home game in just as many tries on April 13.

Platte County’s Cameron Lewis had a big hit in the fifth inning of the Pirates 9-0 win over Arkansas City on April 16 at Lawrence, Kansas.

Following a 15-0 victory over Benton (6-7) on April 12, Platte County had a double header against Ruskin (1-7) the next day. The Pirates outscored the Eagles 31 to one on the day, starting with a 16-1 victory in four innings.

Platte County then went to Lawrence, Kansas, to take on a pair of opponents before Easter. The Pirates split the games against Shawnee Mission Northwest (7-4) and Arkansas City (3-6) on April 16.

The Pirates scored one run in each of the first two innings against Shawnee Mission, but five combined runs in the second and third innings by the Cougars put them ahead, 5-2. While both teams had eight hits, each squad only added one run the rest of the way and Shawnee Mission won 6-3.

Platte County bounced back with a 9-0 win over Arkansas City with a large fifth inning when the Pirates added to their 2-0 lead with seven hits and seven runs. Dayne Wimberly opened up action with a triple and then scored when Dayton Doll connected with a double before Cam Lewis had an RBI single to put Platte County up 4-0.

Nick Baker and Eli Nelson both added RBI singles in the inning and Cameron Dean had a sacrifice fly that led to another Pirate run. Platte County had 11 hits on the day – led by Nelson with three hits – and got another tally in the win column.
