The Pirate boys’ soccer team’s hot start to the fall season didn’t stop when Platte County defeated Benton 8-0 on Sept. 9 for its ninth straight shutout victory of 2021.
The Pirates shared the ball well as seven different players scored a goal and six different players had an assist in the contest. Platte County did most of the damage in the opening half as it led the Cardinals 5-0 at the break.
Pirate senior Isaac Havemeier scored two goals in the first half and was the only Platte County player to kick the ball through the net more than once. Gavin Nichols, Palmer Boekhout and Jake Kingery all converted with a goal in the first half as well.
In the second half, Felix Victore, Josh Nelson and Tyler Bean all got on the scoreboard for Platte County as the mercy rule gave Benton an 8-0 loss. The Pirate offense was very efficient, converting on nearly half of its 18 shots on goal.
Platte County starting goalkeeper, Patrick Sullivan, once again didn’t allow a goal and Sam Hernandez relieved the senior. The duo ensured a shutout to keep the Pirates’ impressive undefeated season alive.
Nathan Macaluso, Cody Green, Ahoy Victore and Nichols all ended with one assist, while A.J. Schrick finished with two assists. The Pirates will move on to compete in the Park Hill South Tournament at Park Hill High School throughout the week.
