Platte County shuts out Raytown in first White Division matchup

The Platte County boys’ soccer team (3-2) opened up conference play with a huge 5-0 win over Raytown (1-3) on September 8.

Platte County juniors Andrew Reinsch (#8) and Gavin Nichols (#11) celebrates after Reinsch scored a goal against Raytown on Sept. 8.

The Pirates had a pair of players score two goals each with juniors Gavin Nichols and Josh Nelson leading the offense. Nichols was the leading scorer in 2021 but had been unable to find the back of the net prior to the Raytown matchup; however, he scored both opening half goals to put the Pirates up 2-0 at the break.

Nelson was inserted into the starting lineup for Aaron Cordova – who was sitting out of the contest with a quad injury – and scored his first goal in the 44th minute off a pass from Felix Victore. Junior Andrew Reinsch slipped one past the Raytown goalkeeper in the 63rd minutes, while Jordan Hedrick didn’t give up a goal in the opening White Division contest of the fall.

After finishing in fifth place in the Park Hill Classic, Platte County lost its first non-tournament game of the season against Staley (3-1) on September 6. A.J. Schrick was the only Pirate who was able to find the back of the net as the Falcons won the contest, 2-1, when the contest was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Most recently, the Pirates hosted Liberty North (4-2) on September 12 and lost in overtime, 2-1. Platte County will play Belton (0-2-1) on September 14.
