The fugitive accidentally released from the Platte County Jail in late April has been apprehended, not far from where he started.
Jae’veon Marquice Mitchell-Locke, 21, was “inadvertently released from the Platte County Jail on the evening of (Thursday) April 20,” according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
Mitchell-Locke was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals on Wednesday, May 31 in Kansas City North. He was then transported to the Platte County Detention Center to await extradition to Kansas. He appeared in court Friday, June 2 and is being held without bond. His next court appearance in Platte County is scheduled for Tuesday, June 13.
Back in April, Locke had been transferred to Platte County from Jackson County due to several misdemeanor Platte County warrants. The transfer of a suspect between counties in the same state to clear warrants prior to extradition to another state is common practice, but the sheriff’s office offered no additional information on how the release happened.
Locke is currently wanted by Wyandotte County, Kan. on charges related to a shooting in Kansas City, Kan. On Wednesday, April 5, Locke was allegedly involved in a shootout with Kansas City, Kan. officers in the 1800 block of Wood Avenue in KCK. Several of the suspects in the undercover fentanyl purchase sting as well as three narcotics officers were wounded in the shootout.
