PARKVILLE – The Park Hill South softball team (6-10) took down Park Hill (8-8) on Sept. 13 before the rivals competed in the Park Hill South Tournament at Tiffany Hills on Sept. 15 and 16.
Park Hill South dominated in its 9-1 home win over Park Hill, taking control with a 5-run surge in the second inning. After having the leading three runners get out in the first inning, the Lady Panthers took advantage of the Lady Trojans’ mistakes in the second inning.
Maddie Smith reached first base on an error and eventually stole home. Autumn Bridges walked three batters and the Park Hill South eventually went ahead 5-0.
Taylor Landeck scored the Lady Trojans’ sole run of the night with a home run over the left field fence. Park Hill only had three hits the rest of the way, including a pair of singles by Lauren Emmendorfer and Jaeda Stroud in the top of the fifth inning but Park Hill South closed out the inning.
The Lady Panthers added two more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings with RBIs by Smith, Emalee Taylor and Erin Stewart. Park Hill South is now 18-2 against Park Hill since 2012.
In the Park Hill South Tournament, the Lady Panthers opened up with a dominant 15-0 win over William Chrisman (4-14) before dropping the next two games. Park Hill South gave up 10 runs in losses to Liberty North (4-7) and Willard.
Park Hill lost a high-scoring, tight one to Webb City (11-4), 12-11. The Lady Trojans responded with three wins to close out the tournament over Republic (10-8), Harrisonville (4-12) and Savannah (7-7).
Park Hill South will hit the road and head to Battle with Columbia Independent (4-10) on Sept. 20. Park Hill will host St. Joseph’s Central (7-6) on Sept. 21.
