For the second time this season, The Park Hill boys’ soccer team came out on top in the battle of the Park Hills when Park Hill South fell 1-0 on Oct. 23 at Park Hill South High School.
The first half was a defensive battle as neither Park Hill team was able to get on the scoreboard when the Panthers had the only shot on goal in the opening 40:00. The Trojans and Panthers both had two missed shot attempts in the first half, as nobody was able to find the back of the net until the 53rd minute.
After a scoreless opening half, Park Hill scored the only goal of the contest when Trojan junior Daniel Lynn snuck the ball past Panther goalkeeper Noah Reuscher. The Panthers had three missed shot attempts in the second half, including one shot on goal, which resulted in Park Hill South’s 3-game winning streak being snapped.
The Trojans have won three straight games against the Panthers dating back to last fall, including a 1-0 win in the Panther Classic Championship on Oct. 7. Park Hill has one more regular season game before postseason begins when it heads to Raymore-Peculiar on Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
The Panthers ended the regular season with a 10-8 record to clinch another winning season. Park Hill South and Park Hill will both move on to the Class 4 District 8 Tournament at Park Hill District Soccer Stadium.
The Trojans are entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed and will take on St. Joseph’s Central on Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. The Panthers will be the third seed and will be matched up with North Kansas City on Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
If both teams win, there will be a third matchup between the Park Hill schools of the 2021 season on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in the district semifinals. The Class 4 District 8 Championship Game will be on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
