The Platte County boys’ soccer team had its 7-game winning streak snapped when the Pirates fell 1-0 against Smithville on Oct. 25.
The Pirates and Warriors were knotted at 0 at the break in the second matchup of the season between the conference opponents. Smithville scored the only goal of the day in the 57th minute on a free kick.
Platte County nearly responded in the 59th minute when Isaac Hevemeier had a free kick of his own. Smithville’s goalkeeper knocked down the senior’s goal attempt and Cavin Forrester ran after the rebound but couldn’t connect with the back of the net.
Connor Currence had a chance to tie the game in the 66th minute on a pass from Palmer Boekhout, but the sophomore was unable to capitalize. Platte County ran out of time and lost its first regular season game of the year, and third overall – as the Pirates lost a pair of games in the Panther Classic Tournament – and they currently hold a 17-3 record.
The Pirates will head to Winnetonka (3-12) for the final regular season game of the season on Oct. 26. Platte County will enter the Class 3 District 8 Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will take on Kearney (10-9) in the first round on Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. with the tournament being played at Platte County High School.
