Lady Panthers primed for success at state

The North Platte girls’ track and field team didn’t only advance to state in all four relays and seven individual events, but also won seven races in the Class 2 Sectional 4 Track and Field Meet on May 14.

Olivia Rogers was a perfect four-for-four in her events, claiming first place in the 4x100-meter relay, 4x200-meter relay, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Rogers finished with personal best times in the 100 and 200-meter dashes when she crossed the finish line in 12.33 seconds and 25.36 seconds, respectively.

Lindsey Ramsey also had a PR in the 200-meter dash to qualify for state when the freshman ended the race right behind Rogers in second place in 25.46 seconds. Lindsey Ramsey broke the North Platte program record in the 400-meter dash, which was previously held by Maddie O’Nelli with 59.04 seconds, set in 2019.

The winning time of 58.90 seconds set the new record, and the freshman was followed by Haley Sampson in second place in 59.15 seconds. Sampson set another individual North Platte PR as the senior’s previous best was 59.34 seconds, which happened at the 2021 state meet.

Lindsey Ramsey and Sampson were also on the first-place relay teams, joined by multiple other teammates. The 4x100-meter relay team of Lonee French, Bella Kitmitto, Sampson and Rogers finished in 50.82 seconds.

North Platte junior Lonee French was the lead leg in the 4x100-meter relay team that finished in first place in 50.82 seconds at the Class 2 Sectional 4 Track and Field Meet on May 14.

Lindsey Ramsey, Sampson, Kitmitto and Rogers led the 4x200-meter relay team across the finish line in 1:44.22. The 4x400-meter relay team ended with a time of 4:09.23 with Lindsey Ramsey, Kenedie Summers, Kitmitto, and Sampson.

The Lady Panthers also earned a third-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay. The bronze medal relay team of Shelby Lingle, Brianna DeBord, Jessa Cassity and Gracie Ramsey ended in 10:13.94, less than 0.5 seconds behind second placed Lafayette County.

Gracie Ramsey claimed another gold medal in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:29.39. DeBord will join the senior in the long distant events as the freshman punched a ticket to state in the 3,200-meter run when she finished in third place with a time of 13:10.72.

The North Platte boys had Noah Heckman and Liam Servaes advance to state, while Josh Schaffart’s season came to an end when he finished in seventh place in the 3,200-meter run.

Heckman was 33 seconds ahead of Schaffart to send the sophomore to state with a second-place finish with a 10:28.51. Servaes heaved the shot put 44-01.50 feet to claim fourth place at sectionals.

The North Plate girls are in position to potentially stand at the podium as Class 2 Champions when the time comes. The Class 2 State Meet is in Jefferson City on May 20 and 21.
