Lady Pirates struggle in Nebraska

The Platte County softball team won one out of its four games in the Papillion La Vista Tournament that took place in Nebraska on Sept. 17 and Sept. 18.

Platte County opened up the tournament with an 8-5 win against Milard West on Sept. 17. That was the Pirates only win of the weekend and was highlighted by Avery Webster’s two hits and TaKayla’ Lawson’s four RBIs.

Later that day, Platte County took on Lincoln Southwest when the Pirates received their largest loss of the 2021 fall season. Lincoln Southwest won 13-0 as the Pirates only had one hit and allowed nine.

Platte County took on Lincoln Southwest again on the morning of Sept. 18, and it was a much more competitive contest. The Pirates led the Silver Hawks 5-0 after the fourth inning but fell 6-5.

Platte County allowed ten hits and all six runs in the final two innings to fall to Lincoln Southwest. Kallie Hitzelberger and Lawson both ended with two hits to lead the Pirates offense.

In Platte County’s final game of the weekend, Papillion La Vista South scored on run in the top of the sixth inning to win 5-4. Chloe Helmer started the contest on the mound for the Pirates and struck out two batter before being relieved by Hitzelberger who ended with one strike out.

Following the 1-3 finish at the tournament in Nebraska, the Pirates record was at 12-7 on the season after the weekend. Platte County’s next game is Sept. 27 at Winnetonka at 4 p.m.
