Park Hill swept doubles and that set the stage for a 6-3 victory against visiting Platte County on Monday, Sept. 17 at Barry Park in Kansas City, Mo.
Elise McFee and Casey Lasaster won 8-5 against Hannah Valentine and Jaycie Call at No. 1 doubles. Lauren Steckelberg and Grace Yu prevailed by the same score against Mikayla Landers and Crystal Billings at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 3 doubles, Jada Ray and Elizabeth Appel won, 8-3, against Karlee Chase and Lauryn Klein.
Each team won three matches in singles play.
Platte County wins went to Call over Steckelberg, 11-10 in a tiebreaker at No. 2 singles. Valentine blanked McFee 10-0 at No. 1 singles for the Trojans. Chase posted a 10-7 win against Appel.
Laster won 10-5 against Landers at No. 3 and Yu rounded out the singles with a 6-2 win against Klein at No. 6. Ray won 10-6 against Billings at No. 4 singles.
St. Joseph Central Tournament
Platte County took third place overall at the St. Joseph Central Tournament on Friday, Sept. 14 at Noyes Courts in St. Joseph, Mo.
Hannah Valentine and Jaycie Call took second place in the ‘A’ doubles, while Crystal Billings and Mikayla Landers took fourth place in ‘B’ doubles.
In singles play, Karlee Chase took fifth place in ‘A’ singles and Lauryn Klein was fourth in ‘B’ singles.
Cameron Tournament
Platte County had a pair of champions on Wednesday, Sept. 12, when taking part in the Cameron Invitational in Cameron, Mo.
Hannah Valentine took first place and Jaycie Call was third place in singles play.
In the doubles finals, Platte County’s Crystal Billings and Mikayla Landers beat teammates Karlee Chase and Lauryn Klein for first place.
Pembroke Hill 8, Park Hill South 0
The Panthers were blanked by the defending Class 1 champions on Monday, Sept. 17 in Kansas City, Mo.
The closest matches for Park Hill South was a pair of 8-6 losses, one in singles and the other in doubles.
Pembroke Hill Invitational
Eva Kresovic was back in the lineup for the Panthers after missing a dual and continued her winning ways.
The reigning Class 2 singles champions, Kresovic took first place in the Pembroke Hill Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15 in Kansas City.
Teammate Chloe Norris took third place.
Lee’s Summit West 9, Park Hill 0
The were blanked by the Titans on Thursday, Sept. 13 at Lee’s Summit West High School.
Trojans’ No. 1 junior Elise McFee fell in her match against Tristan Caskey (1-8) and classmate Lauren Steckelberg suffered the same fate in her match against Chloe Sabin (1-8), as did junior No. 3 Casey Lasater who fell to Raegan McGee (1-8).
Senior No. 4 Jada Ray was unable to get anything going in her match against Sarah Duong (0-8). Freshman Elizabeth Appel fell (4-8) in the No. 5 match against Kennedy Cross and senior Grace Yu lost (4-8) to Olivia Berens for a clean sweep in singles for the Titans.
The Titans won two of the three doubles matches, 8-0, while winning 8-1 in the other.
Park Hill 7, Blue Springs South 2
The Trojans breezed past the Jaguars in a Suburban Conference Gold Division match on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at Blue Springs South High School.
The Trojans went 5-1 in singles matches, losing at No. 1.
The Trojans’ No. 2 player junior Lauren Steckelberg defeated Khiara Cox in three sets then classmate Casey Lasater defeated Jasmine Tucker in straight sets (6-4, 6-3).
Senior Jada Ray defeated Peyton Caldwell (6-4, 6-4) and freshman Elizabeth Appel needed three sets to defeat Ashley Cooper in the No. 5 match. Senior Grace Yu breezed by Jillian Drake (6-0, 6-1) in the No. 6 match.
In doubles, Elise McFee/Steckelberg and Appel/Yu picked up wins.
Park Hill South 9, Liberty 0
Despite playing without defending state champion Eva Kresovic, the Panthers had little problem in dispatching Liberty in a Suburban Red Division match on Monday, Sept. 10.
The Blue Jays scored only eight points in the singles, as Chloe Norris (No. 1), Jacklynn Pham (No. 5) and Samantha Dial (No. 6) all posted 8-0 wins. Claudia Chou won 8-1 at No. 2.
Norris and Annie Saunders won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Pham and Dial also won 8-0. Chou and Julia Stephens won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
