Pirates take fourth place at Winnetonka

The Lady Pirates’ swim team impressed at the Winnetonka Holiday Invite on Dec. 10 and 11 when Platte County finished in fourth place out of 25 teams.

The Pirates finished with 196 points, only trailing Lee’s Summit, Staley and Liberty North who finished with 206, 299 and 351 points, respectively. Platte County had a top-five finisher in six individual events and two top-10 relay finishes.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Meridith Ballou finished in fifth place with a time of 2:22.21. Shortly behind her was Madeline Stone in eighth place with a time of 2:27.28 and Ireland Shank was in 17th place with a 2:44.27 time.

Ballou also impressed in the 100-yard butterfly by finishing in 1:04.11, earning a fifth-place finish. Stone finished in fourth place with a time of 1:06.86 in the 100-yard backstroke. 

Brooklynn Hays was the second swimmer to finish the 50-yard freestyle when the 16-year-old ended the race in 25.87 seconds, while Drew Delay was the second 100-yard breaststroke finisher when she ended the race in 1:10.74. Hays was the next finisher in the race with a time of 1:12.11 and Ella Chiddix ended in 19th place with a 1:26.25 time.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Madeline Judy, Jayden Benninghoff, Lauren Beatty and Shank was the ninth team to finish with a time of 1:56.25. The 400-yard freestyle relay ended in first place in 3:50.88 with Delay, Ballou, Hays and Stone at the helm.
