The City of Riverside is moving forward with plans to build the 15,000-seat amphitheater now under preliminary construction.
At the Tuesday, Oct. 1 meeting of the board of aldermen, aldermen approved the final plat of the amphitheater project. The city replatted 16 separate tracts into two new lots and one tract totaling 165 acres. The bulk of the land will go to the amphitheater and parking, with an area containing some mature trees to be preserved.
The Live Nation amphitheater will be larger than the Azura (Sandstone) Amphitheater and Starlight Theater, with the theater scheduled to open in early 2026.
Due to an error in the Tuesday agenda, the board voted on funding for the project at a special meeting held Thursday, Oct. 3.
Also at the meeting, the city approved a final plat and final development plan for the KC Current to build a hotel on a portion of its property in the Horizons development. The planned five-story Hilton Garden Inn will be located on about three acres. The hotel is designed to match the KC Current training facility, features 134 rooms, a pool, bar and restaurant as well as meeting spaces and is scheduled to open in early 2026.
The city also awarded a $115,000 bid to Rosehill Gardens Inc. to build 186 native trees along streets and in grassy areas in Horizons, including oaks, maples, sycamore and some evergreens. The contract includes one year of watering and maintenance.
The board also discussed how best to update the city’s liquor licensing codes, which were restricted in the past to limit the number of bars in Riverside.
